My first and only zine for the time being, titled Put a Ring on It, was created for one of my first-year studio classes. Our instructions were to put a spotlight onto the mundane, breathing new life into a topic that would typically be overlooked. We had to showcase the mundane object 25 times in various forms, while also creating a visually interesting layout. My topic of choice was simple, rings. There is not a day that goes by where I am ringless, they are an extension of my being, my daily armour. They are a constant in my life, wherever I go I am always seeking out new rings to add to my collection.

For this project, I wanted to challenge myself by meshing together different mediums, including digital illustration, scrapbooking, photo scans, photobashing, and collage. The cover was created entirely on Procreate, digitally painted by myself using a variety of brushes and techniques. It was a labour of love, connecting my love for rings with the stories from others. I hosted small interviews with some friends, setting the stage for them to discuss the importance of rings and what their personal collections meant to them. I spotlighted the influence that my great grandmother had on my love for all things maximalist and extra, along with an homage to my mother’s love of scrapbooking that I displayed with my page layouts and the use of her supplies leftover from my childhood.
